Create implication low_twin_braids -> twin_braids

Posted under Tags

I'll do this because most of these posts are already tagged twin braids and because low twintails -> twintails already exists.

I'm still pretty confused about the differences between twin braids, low twin braids, twintails, low twintails, low-braided long hair, and low-tied long hair. I rewrote the wikis for twin braids and low twin braids, but they're still confusing to me. But in any case, not all twin braids are twintails, therefore not all low twin braids are low twintails. I guess.

Yeah, it's not really clear where one tag ends and the other begins, and this has led to some inconsistent tag usage: for example, despite her wiki page specifying low twin braids as her hairstyle, there are many examples of inugami korone getting tagged with twintails or side braids. So an effort should be made to clear these tags up.

The way I see it (mostly going off of how I see people use the tags), (low) twintails refer to locks of hair originating from the back of the head, while (low) twin braids can start either in the front (see izayoi sakuya) or back (see kaenbyou rin). And the "low" classifies at which point the hair transitions from straight hair to whatever the tag is (for twintails this means where the tie is, for twin braids this is where the braid starts).
As for the low-* long hair: it's a superset of low twin* (since twin* hair is by necessity long), but also applicable to ponytail-like hair.

So there are 4 dimensions for classifying long locks of hair:

  • One or two locks?
  • Does it originate in the front or back?
  • Is it braided or not?
  • Does the styling start high or low?

From these, I propose the following decision tree using the current tags:

Show

All of this is in line with evazion's edits, save for one thing: I'm not sure if twin braids on the back should be considered twintails; this is inconsistent with how braided ponytails are disjunct from ponytails. And if we look at kaenbyou rin as an example, ~7200 posts tag her with twin braids while ~2400 use twintails. I think this suggests that the majority of people don't consider twin braids to also be twintails (or maybe they're just too lazy to tag both.)

Finally, there is some redundancy visible in my tree. According to it, low twin braids should imply low-braided long hair, and side braids should imply twin braids, each of these being in a set-superset relation.

I thought we were using the *tails tags to qualify the braids tags, i.e. it should be low_twintails + twin_braids instead. If so the above would need to be a mass update to those two tags instead.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying low twin braids should imply low twintails in addition to twin braids? Or that we should nuke low twin braids into low twintails + twin braids? Either way, it would mean twin braids are twintails, so we're back to that question.
