Edit: astronaut → space_suit ?

I was wondering if this might be a good idea. Astronaut has some national semantics attached to it (c.f. cosmonaut), and seems to make less sense when the subject is not actually in space at the time (post #434852), or is in a clearly fictitious universe (post #219592, post #161057, post #148936).

I don't know that an alias or implication is in order for the same reasons as above, but maybe an edit would be good? Space_suit would be more general and more naturally encompass everything on the site.

Anyway I wanted to bounce this off you guys, and get your feedback.

I agree space_suit is more neutral. I say go for it.

You've forgotten the currently used spacesuit will need to be aliased to space_suit.

I have a question though, is there a way to separate traditional (bulky) space suits (post #423844) from skin tight (post #313137, post #309467), retro scifi style (post #145514), and other style (post #188678) space suits? Since right now astronaut for the most part seems to mostly be used to cover the bulkier style suit.

I didn't realize there was a spacesuit in use. Would that be preferable to space_suit in general, do you think?

I would say to use bodysuit or something similar for the skin tight ones alongside spacesuit. Though if we want to completely separate the two tags, I'm not quite sure.

I think an astronaut -> spacesuit alias would be fine. It's possible to have an image that wouldn't fit the alias, but none currently do so it's not likely to come up. (For example, an image of the cockpit of the space shuttle showing astronauts without their spacesuits on.)

In addition, skin tight spacesuits would get bodysuit as well for searching purposes. It wouldn't be very intuitive to have two *suit tags for the same image but the spacesuit wiki could explain that.

I'd use pilot_suit to tag post #313137 and maybe post #309467.

I too agree with space_suit. for skintights space suits we can indeed use bodysuit (see samus, some sort of space suit, but tight.)

Samus's suits have tags of their own: power_suit, zero_suit, varia_suit, and fusion_suit.

I've seen other metal exoskeletons similar to Samus's armor (such as Master Chief's or Isaac Clarke's) go under power_suit as well.

If there is no objection then, could we have astronaut aliased to spacesuit then? Or if we'd rather, I can start manually editing them across. I think these other styles can be handled with additional tags.

Ok, nobody's said anything against it, so I'm going to start editing. If we want an alias, someone else will have to do it.
