Tag proposal: birthday_suit

Posted under General

If a "maximum" nude tag were to be added, such as no accessories, I'd propose birthday_suit as a name for it. It's a cheeky play on "the suit you wore when you were born", ergo nothing, and you're not born with any accessories. I don't see that having any ambiguity.

This isn't a strong proposal from me, especially since completely_nude was added; I was stuck either making a new thread or posting in topic #17305, which already finished.

I think this would've been fine to bring up in the previous thread given its recency and relevance. Regardless...

I stand by my previous comment; that accessories counting against completely nude would be to my personal taste, if only to avoid situations like this where a birthday suit tag leads to three tags added to a post in describing a single concept. I can't independently claim birthday suit's niche would serve a significant audience, but if completely nude maintains its current standard, then I can claim usefulness to me given I enjoy the "natural beauty" aesthetic; something unhindered by jewellery and tied hair.

My argument against a literally nude tag is that having extremely minor accessories disqualify a character from being nude is both not that useful and difficult to tag. Many characters would be automatically disqualified just because they have a hairclip, or glasses, or some other minor accessory built in to their character design. It also gets really pedantic when you take it all the way. Imagine not being able to tag birthday suit on any character with a ponytail or twintails. These hairstyles require some kind of hair tie, even if you can't see it, meaning ~technically~ they're not naked as the day they were born. Imagine populating this tag and having to go through every single nude post in full size just to make sure they don't secretly have earrings or some other tiny untagged thing you can't see in the thumbnail. I ran into this while trying to populate completely nude and having to look out for these things makes tagging a nightmare.

Note that even Pixiv's birthday suit tag, 生まれたままの姿(産まれたままの姿)全裸(ヌード), is not literally nude, even though it's supposed to mean naked as the day you were born. It allows for hair ornaments and other minor accessories too, just like our completely nude tag.

To be fair, it's a sound argument. You'd have to do some kind of search like {completely_nude -accessory -hat} (although accessory isn't currently populated) to find "completely nude" characters, which goes beyond the normal user limit.
I don't see an issue with hairstyles being limited, since as Obstetrics said, "I can claim usefulness to me given I enjoy the "natural beauty" aesthetic; something unhindered by jewellery and tied hair.".
I don't think tagging it is an issue either, in case a mistag happens another user can correct it.
You could also make an argument that some pixiv tags are prone to being misused by people who misunderstand what they mean/don't particularly care about the tags' meaning.

Then again, having 3 separate nude tags would be bothersome, and functionally speaking birthday_suit would just be a more restricted version of completely_nude. Maybe a pool could be better?
