The term alicorn to refer to winged unicorn seems to be from predominately only a few modern series, such as My Little Pony. Traditionally they've simply been referred to as a winged unicorn.
The term alicorn is also ambiguous and historically has been used to refer to specifically the horn of a unicorn.
