Wiki Template

Posted under General

Problem:

Wiki pages containing factual but yet unnecessary information that serve little to no use. I believe wiki pages on Danbooru are there to help you understand what the tag is for and it's application.

For example, tachibana arisu and other Idolmaster girls have a chart in their wikis. They are interesting facts about them but ultimately useless for Danbooru tagging purposes.

Solution:

Making wikis have a predetermined template would help keeping them concise and purposeful.
We can achieve this by splitting the "Body" section into the following fields:

  • Description
  • Related tags
  • Other
  • Links

The problem identified isn’t much of a problem at all. Sure, extra information is unnecessary but doesn’t really hurt anyone. Also, I fail to see how the proposed solution would help at all. That exact same extra information would fit perfectly well into the “other” field.
Could you explain why this necessitates a software solution and why you think the suggested solution will work in the way you’re hoping?

I see what the problem is, but if we are talking about character wikis I don't like those kind of "machine generated" wikis that are just a list of tags without much else, let alone context, maybe just making a "howto:character wiki" wiki with some basic style suggestions would be enough.

I don't see how this solution actually accomplishes anything? Even if you split wiki pages up into multiple fields, users who want to add useless trivia will just fill the description field with it anyway.

I agree that information in wiki pages should be limited to that which is relevant for tagging, and howto:wiki says as much, but redesigning the editor isn't going to help.

I don't think having that trivia information is wrong. It's fine to have it there but ultimately it serves no real purpose.

What the solution I proposed would do is to stipulate what exactly should be added in a wiki page. It would make the process of creating a wiki page a lot more fool proof. Since anyone can make a wiki entry, those that don't care enough to read a howto:wiki have specific fields to fill in.

Right now, all we have is "Body". Which leave us with a lot of wiki pages with maybe having a brief description and maybe having some related tags and sometimes having neither.

I'm looking for a balance and a more straight forward way to get your average user (and beyond sometimes) to properly create wiki pages.

I think, need only add link "howto" in to edit/new Wiki page. Then Users can read howto wiki before create/edit wiki page - no need find howto, no need ask forum, no need remember howto wiki-link/wiki body. It's may be created as warning text under body and upside buttons "Submit" and "Preview".

Similar link can be added to artist page (edit/new).
