Doubt on setting a post's parent

Posted under General

Hello,

I was about to set post #3860538 and post #3863461 as the parents of post #3431896 and post #3560391 respectively,
when i second guessed what i was about to do.

I know usually, the parent post is either from a higher quality source or the "main" artwork from a set of derivative images,
but what should i do in this case?

Both cases imply a situation where more of the character can be seen, but there isn't a significant difference in quality
(both are from twitter, and they are loosely of the same resolution).

Is the approach i took correct?

Also if anyone can point me to something clarifying this topic i'd appreciate it, couldn't find myself through anything in the wiki.

In general a cropped version should be set as child of the complete version, even if it's bigger in resolution. There's exceptions to this, like for example a very slight crop having twice the resolution of the parent.

Also the important part is not the source, but the image itself. An image can be from twitter and have better quality than its pixiv version. What you should look at is file size (higher is better for JPGs, smaller is better for PNGs) and presence of artifacts (in very rare cases bigger JPGs doesn't mean better quality).

We have an extensive wiki page on the topic here: help:post relationships.

In both your examples you are correct, the least cropped version should be the parent.
