It's the personal taste of a couple dozen people who have uploaded thousand of posts and for whom the taste can then be asserted by the admins. There's no other way to judge "quality" than in a subjective way, but the number of different approvers all looking at the same posts guarantees that all the "good" (in a losely defined way) posts are approved, though it rarely happens that good posts are missed.
There's no other way to curate content for a site like this other than relying on personal taste.
alright, thank you nonamethanks, i just have a problem when you use the word "standard", but that "standard" is inconsistent, with an entire page saying that if you post was deleted its probably because it doesnt meet a "standard". i wouldnt have a problem with this at all if it was a different word.
that google comment wasnt aimed at you, its for the lacrimosa.

Western-looking stuff typically has a lesser chance at being approved. The child post was uploaded by an user with unrestricted privileges, so it bypassed the queue.
I'd like to know why the following 22 posts were not approved (I'm hoping it's simply because they got lost in the backlog, since one post from the same artist that was uploaded in between got approved almost immediately). Most of them comprise an ongoing comic, for the record.

That artist isn’t that good and all those posts are somewhere between meh and bad. Stiff characters, several poor hands and feet… I don’t know why some of the artist’s posts were approved quickly because the ones I just checked seem barely above the approval threshold. Maybe they tickled someone’s fancy.

The artist has their fans, include a few staff members from what I remember.
