Note vandalism?

I frequent the tags "order:note status:any" nightly. It's extremely rare but sometimes I'll find posts with outlandish notes (Note history on post #3237360) altered from preexisting notes. There didn't appear to be a thread for this phenomena so, uh.
In addition, I've been seeing posts not quite vandalized but, changed from English translations to Spanish. This doesn't strike me as vandalism but I tend to revert the notes back into English. Is that alright? I feel like there should be some way to simply add some kind of alternative notes to toggle if some users want a language other than English. Yet at the same time it might be sufficient to just refer to note history for either native speaker...

In cases of spanish I just append the translation with a translator’s note. See the following format:

[ENGLISH TL HERE](ESP: “[SPANISH TL HERE]”)

I don’t know why the HTML tags were interpreted in a comment system that supposedly uses markdown... Anyway, for my above post, the gray part is surrounded by “<tl>” and the corresponding HTML closer.

TBH I think notes should be in English only, but that's just my opinion, that and a buck'll get you a coffee.

@DeusExCalamus It's indisputably the primary language of danbooru users from a glance. But I worry that the true quantity is greater and unspoken out of fear from the ocean of English. Again though, this site isn't even optimized for any other language- so it's no wonder.

Banned the user mentioned in the OP for adding fake translations to post #3237360. Fake translations are definitely against the rules.

Changing translations from English to Spanish is also against the rules. Notes should be in English only, unless there's some legitimate reason to translate the post to another language, for example for reverse translations.

Being able to toggle between multiple languages in notes is an interesting idea, and it might be something we could do in the future, but it's not something we support right now. So for now, notes should be left in English.

If you ever do write the functionality for this, I have a suggestion for how to write it.

At the time of creation, the language a note is written in is selected from a drop-down list of options (possibly positioned near the "Check translation", "Partially translated", and "Mark as Translated" elements). The default could be English. I think it would make it a little easier on the translators if they only have to select their destination language once per post rather than once per note. A third option would be to have someone's default "note language" be stored in their Account Settings.

When notes exist in more than one language on the same post, a labelled container with a list of labelled radio buttons corresponding to the language each set of notes is in would be displayed off to the side somewhere. The set of notes written in the selected language would be visible, all others would not. The default display each time a post loads would most likely be the set of notes for English (even if that set is empty and others are not).

The major advantage to writing this functionality in this way is that users who speak more than one language and have a distinct preference can still see notes written in their preferred language w/o foregoing the ability to read the posts translated only into another language they can also understand.
That said, people should be strictly warned against writing a translation into a new language by translating other notes rather than the original text itself.
