Replacing "Bowsette" with less erroneous nomenclature

Posted under General

From the genderswap wiki: "A "genderswap" refers to the almost magical version of a sex change, wherein a character of one gender turns into one of the other sex without any medical involvement.
...
If a character is genderswapped often enough, the genderswapped version may be given its own name..."

Naruko and Ranma-chan use the genderswap and genderswap_(mtf) tags, and the base character tags.

Kyonko and Suzumiya_Haruhiko use the corresponding genderswap tags, but do not use the base character tags.

It seems clear we should remove the base character tags from Naruko and Ranma-chan. It also seems clear we should either keep using the genderswap tags on all of them including Bowsette, or rewrite the genderswap wiki.

In any case, we should make a note somewhere (presumably in the genderswap wiki) that if a genderswapped version has its own name, the base character tag is unnecessary unless the base character is also present in the image.

Considering how it's branching out to other characters now and not just Bowser, and even then it still all looks like Peach herself, either every iteration of a character will need it's own fanmade tag or just get rid of them all entirely and just have a tag for the Super Crown transformations themselves. The latter seems much more reasonable and easy catch-all.

Because of this, Bowsette is not be a useful tag. The tag should be for the crown itself instead. Any picture that doesn't have the super crown is just a genderswap + personification.

Honestly, genderswap itself just works. There might not be a need for a specific tag when Bowser + genderswap works just fine.

Also, controversially I think Princess Peach should be tagged with some of these branching iterations, especially non-official ones, and will become an issue. Many are pretty much Peach in all but name only, with the same design, face, eyes and hair but various design elements taken from the character transformed slapped on it. More of a tag what you see then what you know type of thing, many of these images coming out now would have been tagged as Princess_Peach + (other Mario character) or as cosplaying as that character had it not been for the recent meme.

Updated

Bowsette absolutely deserves her own tag. She will, within a few hours, have more images than Bowser does. A tag for Super Crown transformations can *also* be added and used where appropriate, but tags are there to be *useful* and having a tag for Bowsette, who is incredibly popular and many people are going to be searching for images specifically of her, outweighs the fact that there are some edge cases.

Remember why tags exist, they aren't there to create ideal, always internally consistent database organization, they are there to be useful for *people*

Just look at this, it's a matter of time before there'll be a pic of a normal bowser with a genderswap mario.

Two tags search can work if this site only host single character pics for whatever reason.

Bowsette is still useful because it helps to filter previous genderswapped Bowsers that have nothing to do with the meme.

What about copyright tagging? Nearly everything here is getting tagged with Super Mario Bros., when according to the wiki that tag is meant only for the original NES game. In fact, now that I look, nearly all of Mario (series) is tagged Super Mario Bros..

I think Mario_(series) isn't what people search for. He is called and known under the name Super Mario. The same goes for the game series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario

By that logic, shouldn't all kantai collection and kemono friends characters have the personification tag?

Although they are personifications, note that every character has their copyright in brackets to denote difference from the original general tag.

The character is fan made and it's female by default. A genderswap tag is redundant. I'd argue the two examples you mentioned should not have the genderswap tag either.

Genderswap tag is useful for all 3 examples because that's what users are searching for (Bowser with boobs).

No, the users are searching specifically for "bowsette". Furthermore, this is going to make bowser genderswap useless since actual genderswaps are going to be drowned by bowsette.

Again, this is a distinct character now, adding genderswap as well is only muddying the results because by definition all of her pics are going to be genderswaps of the original. We don't use human or light skinned for the same reason - they're assumed to be the norm so they're useless.
