Horizontal stripes are the default and as such they shouldn't be tagged. The existence of vertical stripes doesn't imply we need to tag horizontal stripes too.

These tags were only recently populated, almost entirely by one user (@Fenen).

EDIT: The bulk update request #1757 (forum #149153) has been approved by @Hillside_Moose.

If we decide to untag horizontal stripes, then these posts shouldn't just be untagged, they should be moved to the corresponding striped_* tags, which a significant number of them are not tagged with right now.

It depends on the item as to what sort of stripes are the default.

For all those items, horizontal stripes are indeed the default, but for, say, a scarf, something like post #3151405 is considerably more unusual than something like post #3081723.

If we're going to tag x-striped_item tags based on what is the default, then legwear etc. should have tags for vertical but not horizontal stripes so +1 to deleting those tags. But for other things the rarer tag would be horizontal-striped_item instead, and thus -1 for getting rid of the horizontal stripes tag completely.

I would say that having horizontal-striped_* tags might be useful for images that have two of the same item, but one is vertical/diagonal-striped and the other is horizontal-striped.

For example, let's say you want to search for all images that shirts with horizontal stripes. You can search striped_shirt -vertical-striped_shirt -diagonal-striped_shirt, but if an image has a character with a horizontal-striped shirt and another character with a vertical/diagonal-striped shirt, you won't see that image. Same for other items. I don't know how common those images are though, so I don't know what would be the error margin.

The only type of item I can think of that would (probably) be immune to this situation is a bikini, as you can tag mismatched bikini and use the appropriate tags for the top and the bottom like in post #2842743, post #2847414 and post #3203277.

Shal we do the same for diagonal striped stuff? diagonal-striped necktie is over a thousand posts strong.

Do any posts with horizontal-striped neckties exist? If so, horizontal-striped_necktie should be created for said posts.
The default stripes for neckties are diagonal so it makes sense to nuke diagonal-striped_necktie or possibly alias to striped_necktie.

On another note, I notice many tags implicate vertical stripes while none implicates diagonal stripes yet.
