Why abseiling too? The tag is unused.

Those terms are not very commonly used by laypeople and I'm pretty sure not many people here would tag such actions with those terms.

Ideally it would be an implication, but as said it's unused.
However it's the first thing I thought of.

Rope climbing to me suggests someone climbing up with a rope, whereas abseiling/rappelling is by definition going down. Of course, it often isn't obvious, but sometimes it can be. So I'm cautious about aliasing to that name.
Rope climbing is also the name of a sport, involving climbing up a rope, not descending on one.

I'd prefer an alias directly between the two terms, in whichever direction. The current tag isn't well used, but the lack of the alias and the fact that most people probably don't realise the tag exist would both be major contributing factors to this.

I'd rather keep the rappelling tag. Rappelling/abseiling is more specific than just "rope climbing", and really isn't climbing at all. For example, some posts that involve climbing with a rope but not rappelling:

I have never even heard someone refer to abseiling as "rope climbing" and these are completely different activities anyway, Wikipedia:

Rope climbing is a sport in which competitors attempt to climb up a suspended vertical rope using only their hands.

An abseil/rappel is a controlled descent off a vertical drop, such as a rock face, using a rope.
