Tagging original characters?

Posted under General

I'm making this thread because while I found other threads about this, I wasn't sure if the site's policies on this have changed, and I didn't want to bump old threads. Also for the convenience of other users.

What are the site policies on tagging original characters? I've seen original characters from certain artists getting their own tag, but are there any requirements for that?

I think I've seen mentions of characters needing to have been drawn by other artists, but I may be incorrect.

Is an original character being named enough of a requirement for getting their own tag, regardless of whether or not they were drawn by other artists?

IMO original characters should be tagged once it becomes hard to find them with pool:nnn or artist_name original or similar tag combinations. That includes complex stories with many characters (like Karindou, Black General, or The Unwilling Orc, to name a few from the top of my head) or situations when characters are getting fanart by other artists.

Personally I will tag an original character if it has a given name and/or several pieces of artwork, whether by a single artist or several.
ie:
-Character has a name but only one piece of art, tag.
-Character has no name and only one piece of art, no tag.
-Character has several pieces of art, tag. (either their name if they have one or a tag like kuuderes shadow has mentioned)

To make sure that there are no name conflicts, I would always add in parenthesis the character's creator, which then also takes care of the case of commissioned art where someone has commissioned several pieces of a same character with different artists. Example: kaguya_(flandre5carlet) which I made after asking in a thread how I should handle it.
