Wandoro (speed drawing) - Pool/Tag/Other

Posted under General

I've been encountering a lot more posts on Pixiv with either the title or tag wandoro, which I've learned means that it was drawn in under an hour. I'd like to capture this somehow, since it adds a bit of extra context to the picture. It'd also be interesting to compare all of these images, seeing what various artists can do given the one hour challenge. Probably not tag worthy, but maybe a pool, or perhaps neither... Thoughts?

Edit:

Saw that a topic #11129 had already been raised for it, but it was never resolved.

We could... although some wandoro is crazy detailed given only an hour, and others are pretty much roughs that are for practice.

I think it would require a lot of gardening though, if it wants to see popular use... and the more difficult challenge is making users accept the tag and know how to recognize it whether through twitter hashtags or pixiv collections of images. It's widely understood in the artist sphere, but not sure how prevalent it is among here.

I'd say so. Wandoro is just a Japanese portmanteau of something like ワンアワードローイング (1 hour drawing), and because it's easier to type it's just called 1draw (ワンドロ).

The term is used with a lot of other copyrights too, so I think it wouldn't be unusual to see it being tagged as such. That being said, I think tags that use it should correspond to the certain 'theme of the challenge' wherever it may exist. It can't just be tagged for anything drawn in one hour -- that would just be plain speed drawing.

Just to revive this again, maybe speed_drawing should be created after all, to encompass all similar challenges (I think I've seen 30-minute and 2-hour ones, at least) and artist mentioning "drawn within N minutes". Some kind of limit should be set, though. A what point it shouldn't be considered speed drawing anymore? Finishing an image within a day is significant challenge for some artists, but it's trivial for more experienced ones.

I'd say anything under 2 hours, to be a bit broad, but taking experienced illustrators into account, I'd go for 1 to 1.5 hours. I really should take up drawing again, but I've got so much else on my plate :/ I never get around to daily speed-drawing.
