Builders with undertagging habit

I contacted BlindSargent over it once and applied what he told me to do. What's more annoying is leaving records without contacting the person first, imo, but whatever.

You've been warned twice before. You said that you've contacted by BlindSargent and applied whatever he told you (I assume he told you about the function of "Related" on tag box), then what's left for me to contact you to begin with?

I'll try and tag more accurately, but honestly, I'm not going to devote more of my time learning about every article of clothing or every single different type of hat.

You don't need to. All you need to do is just to remember few very simple general tags like looking_at_viewer, solo, day, night, smile and so on.

Also, you can also add more "color" tags in your clothing tags. If it's difficult for you to tag a specific clothing, then just use "color" tags like white_panties, red_shirt, green_skirt etc. It may looks so trivial, but it matters more than you think.

The reason I brought this up is not to discuss what to use, but what the consequences might be for Contributors that are not good at tagging. It's pretty pointless to create multiple negative feedbacks if they end up being hollow. Then there is no reason to improve and to complain.

Mm, well the simplest consequence I can think of is to revoke their unrestricted uploads privilege. If they realize they can't get away with poorly tagging uploads now that their uploads are both limited and vetted through the mod queue, maybe they'll start to learn.

I'm not sure if there is any other consequence possible past that though. AFAIK you can't really "remove" builder status from them (and maybe it goes a bit too far) but truth be told, I think one has to live up to the builder status. If they set a bad example, it compels others to get lazy about their uploads too -- and the point of Danbooru's tagging system is to find pictures quickly anyway. Not tagging your ups defeats its' purpose.

EDIT: Also, I think "just tagging what you see" as a reason for subpar tagging habits isn't enough of an excuse. When I made my first few uploads, I always looked back and saw what others updated my initial tags with, and just learned from there. Tag groups also exist on the wiki as he said.

Mod+ get a Promote button on user pages that leads to a dropdown box to choose Member/Gold/Platinum/Builder/Janitor/Moderator/Admin (though I doubt the last one or two would work for a mod) and checkboxes for Unrestricted Uploads and Approve Posts. So, basically, staff can promote or demote in all sorts of ways and directions. If one wanted to be harsh they could be bumped to Platinum (or Member if REALLY harsh), but it'd make more sense to just uncheck Unrestricted Uploads in this case.

Ah, I didn't know that. I've never seen one be demoted from Builder to Platinum or straight down to member, so I just assumed so. Seems to be an extremely edge case though.

Ah, I never knew it was once like that. I guess the more you know… As I'm aware from browsing through the site and forum though, "Contributor" is the informal name for builders with unrestricted uploads, right? I believe I have seen "promoted to Contributor" in feedback and people often using the term, but as it says in help:users it's obsolete, isn't it.

Well anyways, I just do hope something is done to raise the standard for those of us that have those poor tagging habits… Sure, it might increase the workload in the mod queue, but along with topic #13481 I think there are some decent ideas to be considered. The image itself should be the only thing considered during an approval, but at least others notice the tags while browsing it. Poorly tagged entries that skip the mod queue altogether miss that kind of careful scrutiny. For me at least, I've always given it my best to tag something since I don't think it takes that long, save for maybe entries with multiple people.

Tagging what you see isn't about being lazy or not, it's about not assuming tags based on archetype or character design in a post. If it's an image of, say, a school girl who is often depicted in a sailor uniform, but the image is only of her waist down, then you don't tag serafuku because you can't confirm it is, though logic may lead one to assume it most likely is.

Ah, that was poorly worded. My apologies. I meant what lxs said in forum #122597. He said, as I quote:

I'll be honest. I just tag what I see, I don't know and I'm not willing to spend hours looking up every tag. If I see something I know exists, I'll look it up and try to find it, but I'm not going to look up every single thing in a picture.

But I do understand exactly what you mean about not assuming tags based on what's known about a character or an archetype. Like I don't tag any variation of "color" eyes if I don't see the character's eyes to begin with, even if I know what color they are.
