I guess this is the best I can get. It does the job of notifying users that they must but in the bare minimum and doesn't involve an overall revamping of artist_request's definition and functionality which—though I was hoping for—no one else seems very open to. Also there should be a similar notice if there is not a source from sites like Tumblr, Pixiv, Twitter but artist_request is not present.

Also, help:home needs to be updated as it asks users to resolve artist_requests but does not explain anything about arttags:0.

OKAY I am not bringing up my initial proposals again. However could we have a bulk update to remove artist_request from posts with sources that have an artist name such as DeviantArt, Pixiv, et all? The tag is hardly useful right now. Most of the time it just requires creating a new new artist page or adding a URL to a line.

So something like...?

mass update arttags:0 source:pixiv -> -artist_request
mass update arttags:0 source:http://twitter.com/* -> -artist_request
mass update arttags:0 source:http://twitter.com/* -> -artist_request
mass update arttags:0 source:http://lohas.nicoseiga.jp/* -> artist_request
...
...

I've come across art that is sourced but drawn by someone else entirely; or a collaboration piece.

There's also cases where a post is sourced but the artist has since deleted their entire profile on that site.

See BrokenEagle98's example of such a bulk update I am proposing. For example post with no artist tag, with a pixiv or twitter source, and the artist_request tag would have the tag removed. Read the second line of the wiki page for the explanation as to why this is necessary. I don't know whether arttags should be considered however, the earlier request was for adding artist request rather than removing it.

As for works by someone else I don't think artist_request has anything to do with that. With or without the tag it is not easier to detect that so far as I can tell.

Collaboration works I don't see how you can find them using artist request easily. Collaboration_request seems like a suitable repalcement to me it just needs more usage and a fleshed out wiki.

Wouldn't Danbooru artist detection work around this? I don't think a profile needs to be active for it to work, and with tools like SauceNAO as well you can retrieve some of the important data like former names and usernames. I don't see how artist_request aids in this. If Twitter for instance is the only known profile for a 404 artist than that's all we can ascertain anyway and we should just make an arttag for that profile, no? It could be aliased later on if the actual artist tag is found or more accounts.
