It's scary how this thread went from cute chibis to dickgirls in one page =P

The internet is amazing that way. I think it's actually some sort of anime version of Godwin's Law.

Anyway, I'm okay with changing chibi to SD due to past precedent since the alias is there to help me along.

But if they're aliases, they'll both work.

Like you, I use, and will continue to use, chibi myself, but I think both tags are acceptable. And I'm not going to overturn another admin's decision when it doesn't negatively impact information retrieval. Unless albert chimes in I don't think I'll have anything else to say about this specific alias.

See, but it doesn't work like that, a tag and a something aliased to that tag are not equal, one stays and becomes standard usage and the other disappears completely from the site, so why use a term that most users might not be familiar with instead a shorter term most are for no reason. The alias kemonomimi -> animal_ears makes sense because it's unlikely most users will know what kemonomimi means. At the same time, we don't alias paizuri or titfuck to mammary_intercourse or ass to buttocks just because they're more "correct" terms. Like I've said before, Danbooru is not an encyclopedia so we don't need to do that.

And also I'd like to think user input has some value, not just "memento mori said so, don't bother him about it".

User input matters (albert has reversed decisions countless times based on precisely that, and you know it), but it's not like he just randomly made up a term nobody has heard of. If he tried to alias it to "eggplant" then I'd echo your objections more.

Basically, I'm not sure what more you really want me to do. It seems like a done deal, and I'm of the opinion that it won't negatively impact the community, so at this point you'd have to appeal directly to memento or albert.

So since searching for chibi will still come up with the assortment of chibi pictures, I didn't quite notice right away that it had been changed to super_deformed. But since I finally did notice, I came to the forums to see what was going on and found this informative thread.

I hope its not too late for me to chime in, but I think that chibi is more suitable than super_deformed. Chibi has been used since forever on Danbooru, so why change it? People uploaded over 5000 chibi pictures, and then tag them as such. And there are those awesome and cute Chibi Miku-san 4komas, and it is rather weird to see them tagged as super_deformed instead of chibi now.

Change the tag back to chibi, not only for those who prefer chibi of super_deformed, but for Chibi Miku-san too.

FWIW, I also hate the alias. Chibi is more familiar and much easier to type, thus less likely to be omitted by users who don't know about the alias's existence. And given that the reason for the switchover is fairly frivolous anyway (really? Weaboos only? Someone should tell that to Chibi Miku's author then), I say the benefits of better tagging shouldn't be overlooked.

I vote for chibi over SD. It might be that I don't commute to the right places, but I've never heard anyone talk about "super deformed". It's always been called "chibi" as far as I know.

If I remember correctly, SD is the original term for this style. Chibi is (in my experience) the more commonly used term in the Western-appreciation-of-anime-style-stuff-world. Either one has its own merits and neither one is "right".

I don't really care which it becomes as long as the other is aliased to it.
