Uncensored Art

A very good question. The Japanese have stupid censorship laws which make no sense because they are the ones who are especially open to sexuality.

You could try and contact an artist by using the contact details that some of them provide on their websites. However, I think they are not so fond with English, so in the worst case (unless you know Japanese) you have to use an inaccurate translation service like Babelfish and ask for uncensored copies. Some artists may demand money in exchange for their uncensored work.

Do you really think many artists are going to go make separate uncensored versions of their art, much of which will be from things they're trying to sell in doujins, to a bunch of overseas (American or not) strangers they won't get a cent/yen from? =P

This thread also doesn't have too much to do with danbooru.

I'm no historian, but I believe Japan's censorship laws were set in place by the Americans during Japan's reconstruction after World War II.

Japan's censorship laws may be strange, but what I find stranger is the sheer determination of some to decensor everything. Sure, censorship is annoying to look at, but it takes a seriously unimaginative fellow to think, "If only that pic was uncensored, then my experience can be significantly improved!"

It doesn't help that most decensoring attempts are mediocre at best; most look incredibly generic, as if they were copy-pasted from a template.

Meiji era, I believe. That's quite a bit older.

I question why any such picture censorship is done at all. Everyone knows what is being covered up, so what is the point exactly? The whole point of censorship is to stop you from gaining some kind of information.

Also, as a rebuttal to your views on uncensoring not improving the expereince: censorship of things must improve the experience for others, as the requirement exists, so the reverse must also be true for people with the opposite viewpoint on censorship.

Mosaic censorship isn't even annoying to look at. I don't understand the big deal about uncensoring. Is it really that important to see the details of genitalia? What's erotic about an image is rarely how well labia or glans are drawn. And even if that's a huge priority to you, most uncensoring attempts look ugly anyway.
