[Feature Idea] Pools Included for Translated Tags

Posted under General

When uploading pictures from sites like Pixiv or Seiga, Danbooru will "translate" the tags giving the uploader help with tagging. This is done through the "Other names" dialogue box being populated in the wiki with the equivalent Japanese translation. Ex: The wiki for Katyusha has "カチューシャ" and "カチューシャ(Gup)" in Other names, so whenever those tags appear on Pixiv or Seiga, it presents the translated tag of Katyusha.

There are some pools here that have a one-to-one mapping with a Pixiv/Seiga tag. Given that, it would be nice if pools had an Other names dialogue box that could be populated, just like the Wiki entries.

Ex: これが西住流… == Pool: Girls und Panzer - Oh! Is this the Nishizumi-ryu!? (pool #11031)

So when the tag "これが西住流…" appears on Pixiv/Seiga, it would present the translated tag of "pool:Girls_und_Panzer_-_Oh!_Is_this_the_Nishizumi-ryu!?", which would let users add it to that particular pool.

This feature idea would be especially useful for those that can't read Japanese...

Anyways, thoughts...? Good idea, bad idea...?

I like the idea, but

... that have a one-to-one mapping with a Pixiv/Seiga tag.

could be a problem, because I wouldn't be surprised if a certain number of pools have a slightly different definition than the pixiv tag usage.

That said, this probably also applies to other translated tags so maybe it isn't a (serious) problem.

There was some discussion about that idea back when translated tags were being implemented. It should be possible to implement, if a bit complicated, but the thing is - series pools don't need this (because series fanart from other artists will get marked with the same tag), and collection pools might be too subjective to rely on something like that.

Yes, I agree with series pools. As for collection pools, as I mentioned, it still requires some thinking by the user.

As an alternative, would it be possible to have a database of nontaggable items, where the Japanese -> English translation could be inserted. For instance, when it translates これが西住流…, it would only present a plain-text translation of "Oh! Is this the Nishizumi-ryu!?", with no hyper-link or anything taggable.

So instead of

pool:Oh! Is this the Nishizumi-ryu!?

it would instead just show

Oh! Is this the Nishizumi-ryu!?

or

Oh! Is this the Nishizumi-ryu!? (pool)

Since it doesn't present a link, it would therefore require a bit more effort to add to a pool, and therefore require a bit more thinking on whether to add it to that pool or not.

Anyways, just a thought...
