Uploading CRIMSON'S CREED by fifiruu

Posted under General

The artist fifiruu (https://danbooru.donmai.us/artists/34396) has an ongoing Touhou/Assassin's Creed crossover manga on Pixiv titled CRIMSON'S CREED. I do not see any pages of it on Danbooru. The artist clearly isn't banned, since their most recent art has been uploaded here. Is there a specific reason that this manga is not being uploaded (e.g. request by the artist, conflict with site rules), or is it simply that nobody's doing it? I want to be absolutely sure it's all right before uploading it myself.

My guess is that no one wants to upload it, for a couple of reasons:

A) Sheer number of pages to upload
B) Historically lower acceptance rate for comics

That said, there's nothing inherently wrong with uploading it, though I would caution you to upload only a handful of pages at a time. If you dump the whole manga and it doesn't get approved, it could have long-term effects on your upload limit.

Comics tend to not get approved more often, either because the early art is rough, or certain pages do not meet approver standards. Plus, you're talking a few nights work (at least) for even the most basic tagging.

Most comic dumps tend to be one book at a time... and from experience I've spent three or four hours tagging even a 20-page upload, which means you really need to like the series.

I might take a look at it later, but no guarantees.

Despite a philosophical distaste for Assassin's Creed I'd like to see that...

However, ideally, one day it might be possible to upload complete translations of books up --- perhaps to a separate 'Book' section --- as single files, maybe pdfs or some ebook format, rather than wading through 1001 individual pages online.

.

Cut down on the tagging too.

Looking up Nekobungi Sumire on Google, whose London Cop series is now running on Danbooru, I saw she has Kindle versions up both on Amazon and her own site . I'd definitely buy these if ever I get a Kindle --- but it shows what is already possible.

I assume there may be copyright issues in compiling pages into ebooks, but can't see any moral difference between translating loads of pages and combining those pages into one file.

You think that text that is fan-translated is still owned by the person who wrote the original text?

Actually yes. Legally. Unfortunately ( I am not a great fan of copyright, not because I want to nick stuff, but because it's stultifying to culture --- suppose Gutenberg had copyrighted printing for 1000 years... ).

However I believe the translator owns the copyright to the text in the new language, whilst the creator owns the copyright to the content. However, a lawyer might know more.

On the other hand, very few creators are going to be petty enough to make a fuss over their oeuvre reaching a wider audience. Unless it's a commissioned work, more free fame and appreciation is what they are in to. Translating stuff is barely any risk, and no-one can stop you anyway.

If you wanna upload the whole set, aside the fact that everyone else has said about uploading a few pages at a time so your upload limit becomes a disaster, you're gonna have to set aside time to do so. Assuming each set averages 20 pages at 9 sets, at least an hour or so. And that's comparing to myself since I try to be thorough.

That being said, always go with the common denominator for tags on each page. In this case, pool:x fifiruu comic translation_request monochrome touhou assassin's_creed_(series). Those alone would cover what would likely be on each page (though the assassin's creed one is more at your discretion.

Given the artist has a "please speak to me before reproducing my work" notice in the Pixiv description (in English), I'm a bit hesitant to just upload everything in the series. Unlike the Warugaki situation (and maybe Mizuki Hitoshi), where they already know about us (and quite a few of us have been buying their books in turn), I'm not anywhere near fluent with Japanese and would prefer someone get the artist's consent ahead of any reupload into Danbooru.

I'm more okay with uploading comics if the artist has put his up on Pixiv or whatever. Not too keen on scanned stuff unless I like it. It's when the C&Ds start coming in that we have to stop.

I would be more than willing to do it myself, as I easily have the time to spare. Someone else would need to go over it and add the AC-specific tags, since I am not at all familiar with the series. Other than that, I'm pretty thorough with tagging.

However, what Jarlath said does make me hesitate. I don't know Japanese either, so I'm not sure how to approach this.
Then again, the artist's single works are already on here, so maybe they already consented? Or they could be royally pissed off if they found out...

Well, we have many artists who don't want this. But still, their images are nonetheless uploaded here. So to speak: You won't have a problem here. But still, asking the artist, maybe in English, doesn't hurt either.

Agree with Provence... the policy I've experienced is uploading is fine unless the artist sends a C&D message to albert, at which point they end up on the banned artists list.

Also, the usual has also been that it's not necessary to go out of our way to inform the artist that their art is being uploaded here. If they happen to discover it and object that's fine, as they can always use the above method.

All right, I've uploaded the full first chapter. The first four pages went up yesterday and were approved, and I uploaded the remaining twelve today. I'm uncertain about the significance of the last page of each chapter, and whether we need them on Danbooru, but I uploaded this one anyway, since I don't think that's really my decision to make.

Okay, I need some advice: is the 9th page of http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=43279423 all right to upload? It's not explicit, but is "questionable" loli content restricted as well?

There's no rule against uploading loli content as long as it's tagged as such. The general rule of thumb is that images of prepubescent girls should be tagged loli unless they're rating:safe. It's better to err on the side of caution if unsure, but when in doubt, you can also ask for help in topic #8650.
