Tag Discussion: Mother

Posted under General

As it stands...
earthbound aliases to mother_2
earthbound_zero aliases to mother
mother_3 aliases to mother

May this be changed to...
ALIASES
earthbound to mother_2
earthbound_zero to mother_1
IMPLICATIONS
mother_1 to mother
mother_2 to mother
mother_3 to mother

Since (IIRC) the standing policy to to implicate individual games to a series tag when those games share the same world and/or characters. I feel that the Legend of Zelda approach is a bit much for a series with so few entries.

Why not alias them all to mother, or preferably mother_(game).

Well, unlike LoZ where you perenially have a Link, a Zelda, and a Ganon[dorf] (and, in some cases, direct sequelage, such a MM and PH), the MOTHER games seem more individualized, at least as far as playable cast goes. Don't they de-serve re-cog-NI-tion?! </dramatics>

I was planning on suggesting these aliases/implications myself. Each game in the series has a separate cast so they shouldn't all be lumped together under one tag.

I agree with T5J8F8's suggestions, except I think each game should implicate to mother_(series). Doing that will free up the mother tag so that it's no longer ambiguous.

The proposed aliases to mother_1 2 and 3 sound reasonable. Separate tags are justified by the differing casts.

As for the implications, a qualifier would be good, with _(game) probably being the better choice. We only use _(series) in two tags, _(game) in 15 or so. Neither are bad ideas, but _(game) is just more common.

The only problem with using mother_(game) for the whole series is that it would seem like it's only referring to first game at first glance (which is just called "Mother" - I'm not against adding a "1" for tag purposes, though, as was done with Final Fantasy and others).

Possibly, but if it's always an implication from _1 _2 _3, and thus appears alongside one or more of them, then I think that should clear up most of the confusion. I don't think we'd run into too many people using it wrongly.
