The exact same image in the exact same resolution (800x800) was uploaded 3 months ago and approved.

Instead of deleting the duplicate image, the original was deleted. Why?

I dont even know why the original was tagged as pixiv manga sample when they were both fetched from the same link : http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=50988876

Did you check with the editing tab? Your upload has the source link http://i1.pixiv.net/c/1200x1200/img-master/img/2015/06/20/13/48/39/50988876_p0_master1200.jpg while RaisingK's upload has the source link http://i1.pixiv.net/img-original/img/2015/06/20/13/48/39/50988876_p0.jpg.

I dont know why it says that, because both of them re-direct to http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=50988876 for me and they are the exact same image in both cases.

Like i said they are both 800x800. How is one a "sample" when its the same image?

Differing sources actually. Yours was:

http://i1.pixiv.net/c/1200x1200/img-master/img/2015/06/20/13/48/39/50988876_p0_master1200.jpg

And the parented latter one was:

http://i1.pixiv.net/img-original/img/2015/06/20/13/48/39/50988876_p0.jpg

You can see the original source in the Source field if you hit edit. And from my experience, the latter one is at least the usual format for a Pixiv image link (/#_p0.jpg).

They're also definitely two different images, despite dimensions, if you look at file sizes. Odd that the typical type link is smaller, but then I'm no expert on Pixiv's image system.

EDIT: slow typer.

They both re-direct to http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=50988876 so...why does it matter?

File sizes are slightly different yes...by like 1 kb? Can you circle which parts of the image is different?

Like, if one image was 800x800 and the other was 600x600 then yea, one is obviously a sample, but thats not the case here?

Someone could simply have edited the source link if that was a problem, like editing an incorrect tag.

They both redirect to the same place because Danbooru redirects you to the "top" source; Pixiv isn't doing the redirecting. Not all Pixiv manga samples are close to the full version; as far as I know all of them are compressed differently, hence the minor filesize change.

If the source link were changed it'd then be an md5 mismatch; same result.

EDIT: For the curious, here's the DiffImg output; yellow represents changed pixels. I had to screencap it as the raw output was being buggy, so it's not 1:1.

Updated

It's just a matter of logistics; Danbooru wants a certain source from pixiv, regardless of how close the sample is to the root source. As OOZ said, sometimes the differences are hard to notice, sometimes they're larger. The policy is simply to get that same root source each time regardless of the degree of difference.

Honestly, just best to learn how to get that desired source (the one with #_p#.extension) and have getting it ingrained as a system so you're pulling the same thing each time you go from pixiv.
