Iron --> flat-iron

Posted under General

I'm not requesting that "iron" should be aliased to flat-iron, but rather that all images that have a flat-iron in them that are tagged as "iron" should be changed to flat-iron. While I don't see Danbooru currently having any images with just the metal "iron" tagged as iron in them, I myself believe it would be better to fix this tag so that no possible confusion could happen in the future.

Thank you.

We've tagged elements before.

But seriously, even if it we ever actually needed a tag for elemental iron, which doesn't seem likely, then something like iron_(element) or iron_(metal) would suffice. Changing existing tags is really quite unnecessary.

But is it? I for one didn't even know that a flat-iron could be referred to as simply just "iron".

And as for changing the tag, why not? It would avoid confusion. If iron can be tagged as flat-iron... why create unnecessary add-ons such as _(element) or _(metal) when it would be simpler to name flat-iron as flat-iron?

Also as you pointed out, other elements that have been tagged did/does not have such an add-on... so why break the consistency?

I wasn't aware there was a term for the device other than "iron". Anyways -1 for trying to rename it. Looking it up on google and sites like Amazon the device for removing wrinkles from clothing is labelled as an "iron." On the other hand "flat-iron" results predominately (or entirely in the case of amazon) with the device used for straightening hair.

If for some reason it is really necessary to have to call it something else, then I'd take wikipedia's approach and label it as "clothes iron".

The likelihood of the element is kind of slim imo, but I don't really see a reason it needs to get tagged outside of simply labeling with the metal tag. It's not like iron looks unique over other metals. Anyways, with autocomplete having iron_(element) would mean having that name also come up as a user is typing in iron, so it's not going to cause confusions to users if the device sticks to using the tag iron.
