Cute Tag

Almatia said: Just search for "loli" usually most "safe" ones are cute, that's what I do anyways XD

Honestly, safe images shouldn't even be tagged loli. Loli implies something sexual, which would be inappropriate for safe rated images. I remove loli when it's tagged to something not even remotely sexual.

Image with young girls != automatically loli.

maybe the child tag could be used for that?

Please don't use child. I think that on a website where a not insignificant portion of the contents is porn, even having a child tag might be a problem.

Especially if this tag applies to both pornographic and non-pornographic pictures.

Guess your right... But i still agree with phane on making a tag for non pornographic images containing young girls.

How about a tag with underscore like "loli_safe"? I don't think anyone would get confused by it.

This would equal to a 'loli rating:safe' query. It's also not solving the original problem (loli being a misnomer for images featuring childlike characters in a safe, non-sexual setting), it just adds another layer of non-intuitive tagging which has to be learned, rather than assumed.

The only less subjective alternative for cute that I could come up with is moe, but that would entail completely bastardizing the original meaning of the word just for the sake of archiving. Another idea I had would be to use wakai, since it sounds somewhat less creepy if it's in Japanese, removing some of the overly negative young -> child -> porn connotations.

But I don't think either of those really solve the issue.

I would think that query should returns 0 results, if loli is used only for questionable-unsafe (kinda forgot how they are rated) materials to begin with.

And wakai is not that much commonly used, pretty much non-intuitive for common people.

Yes, _if_. But with the way the 'loli' tag is currently being used (jxh2154's edits notwithstanding), the query 'loli rating:safe' would theoretically produce the same results as your proposed tag, making the implementation of said tag unnecessary. And if it would be implemented, then we'd still have the issue of the word loli, which denotes something sexual, being used to describe something which is not sexual.

In other words, it would be the same thing, with the same issues, implemented differently.

By the way, albert, the Help link next to New Topic currently leads to a 404 page.

Maybe it's just me but it seems to me loli, despite coming from lolita/lolicon, only means the girl has child-like traits, and not necessary denotes something sexual. That's in majority of english sites/forums I been to. Danbooru is in fact 1st site I seen that consider "loli" as implicitely sexual. Which is ok considering it's used as a short for "lolicon" here. But common people probably don't all think loli=lolicon when they tag, and happen to misstag perfectly safe cute loli as "loli", since there is no other similar tag. That's basically why I suggested "loli_safe", so more people notice this tag when they actually look for loli tag while tagging new pic.

I would agree with Almatia. :3 Loli is used on sites like this to describe a specific kind of content, but outside of here on the rest of the internet that's not necessarily so.

I'd say don't worry about it- people will revert back to tagging with that word over time anyway. :P

There is a difference between everyday casual use and something more specific like categorization, the latter being our concern here.

I myself get lazy and use "loli" when talking about young girls, but I do so primarily in a facetious manner. That doesn't change the real meaning, however.

I also haven't had quite the same experience as you have regarding use of 'loli' being primarily in a 'worksafe' sense. It's very common for it to be used in its true, 'sexual' context, in my experience, and I think many people understand that. If people come here and intentionally search 'loli', I think they know exactly what they're getting into.

And yes, right now a search on 'loli rating:safe' brings up 14 pages. I may go through and fix all that eventually.

As for suggesting a new tag, I'll leave that up to you guys. I'm not quite sure it's necessary however. Would it be applied to every image with a young-looking girl in it? How young-looking? That would probably be a third of the images in the database in some way or another. I guess I just don't think it's a good thing to tag.

I guess it would be quite long to add that new tag to all the images that need it XD. And it would only really be useful for narrower search involving multiple tags like "young-looking-girl+sword" I guess XD

And I suppose "flat_chest" tag works anyways for safe loli, now that I spent 30 min looking up existing tags XD

suwayya was the one using the tag, so he probably knows best what and how to categorize. I assume that he used the tag to look for non-explicit and non-sexual images of female characters ranging from toddler-like chibi to prepubescent girls. Pop's illustrations, which he uploaded a lot of, should be the definition of this.

Edit: Now thinking about it, I'm not even sure if prepubescent is the right word, seeing as how a lot of characters are a mixture of extremely childlike facial expressions, height, etc. all the while having very mature breasts that a preteen would never have. But then again, you could consider the presence of those breasts sexual, thus making it lolicon?

Whatever. Trying to find even ground in such ambiguity is futile and probably pointless.

He was actually talking about "cute" tag, and got his answer from albert. Then we started going off topic about loli tag problems.

Although I don't really care about the issue at hand (other than a preference to not make it sound like Danbooru has child porn), I think that it would be wise to hold off on any wide-scale changes until the issue has be resolved. That way even if we do have a new tag, instead of searching through the whole collection to tag, someone can do a search for "loli rating:s" and be able to tag those.
