This is just me guessing, but I'm pretty sure it's that people tend to hang themselves with christmas lights, like Sayori in DDLC. Then again, I'm rather stupid, so I could be wrong.

Rather than the lights, there’s a Christmas ornament and some pinecones in the box with her. Both of which are things people usually “apply” to Christmas trees.

Huh, a hypnosis story I've actually been interested in seeing: the instigator (in this case, Sazanami) succeeds in hypnotizing the apparent victim (in this case, Ushio), and ends up regretting their success. Worse, they didn't think one second past whatever they wanted to do and can't lift it. I just find such poetic justice incredibly satisfying.
