To be technically correct, the best kind of correct, she didn't lose because her swordplay sucks. She lost because her sword sucks. The traditional forging process for a katana leaves them infamously brittle IIRC, so it's no wonder it shattered going up against plate armor.

swords in general are ill-suited against plate, unless you go for weak points, like joints; using a club was a far better move
