I'm confused, are they running from Gold Ship or is there something even further behind even her?
It is just your average uma race. Gold Ship's sheer will in her attempt to complete the rubik's cube was so strong that is unleashing her inner spirit.

Also might have to do with how her main strat being Chaser. Because she’s mostly just chill at the last spot for half of the race then suddenly charge straight to the front in a few seconds. The sheer pressure when she chases after you on the later half of the race is terrifying. She even got that weird skill where she stare at the girl in front of her and causes debuff too
Does anyone have a clue as to whu she's always seen having one of those things?
The actual real-life horse she is based on had a reputation for being smart but eccentric (for a horse). Along with having a difficult temperament.
This translates into a preoccupation with Rubik's cubes at the most inopportune of times (along with other stuff like building a house of cards during physical training to add to the eccentricity and the "I do what I want at my own pace" attitude) for his horsegirl counterpart.

Same with her constant eye pokes.
Apparently the real-life horse had some sort of incident with woodchips on the course flying into his eyes during training. Or some sort of accident with a blindfold during the opening parts of a race. Can't verify either of this though, only heard them through random twitter posts.
