From what I could gather, the unluckiness of hate no hatsuka came first, and the relationship with ippon-datara came later (as a result of its relationship with the Hatenashi mountain range and the fact that there are no passers-by at this time of the year —to not be/to be missing → nakunaru; this na happens to be the same one as in Hatenashi).
It's true that the ippon-datara is often said not to harm humans, however this page does say they do eat the travellers that go through the mountains. Now, I have no clue where this page gets their info from, nor whether it happens to be accurate to any degree, but after translating Ohayoumu for a few months, it's clear to me that Youmu-kun mostly relies on that webpage (sometimes even copying their exact wording). And, by his own admission, he does not do his due diligence in his research.
Ipoon-datara legends vary between regions, and a few versions do eat people.(I actually considered clarifying that in my original comment but couldn't figure out how to word it correctly.) I was mostly criticizing the holiday rather than bashing the authors research credits.
I think that's a Glock 19. It's supposed to be a compact gun, but it's a little too big here, maybe just a small artistic error.
The interesting thing here is, shooting a Glock gun underwater is technically possible, but not advisable due to the risks involved; one of these risks being the danger of getting injured due to the shock wave created by the explosion when the primer ignites the gunpowder. Additionally, the pressure from the explosion can damage the firearm itself. Not to mention, most of the energy of the bullet is lost after traveling one, or three meters underwater, greatly reducing its speed and effectiveness. In this short and old YouTube video, you can see a guy shooting his Glock gun underwater, but if you look at the top left of the video, it seems like he has his head out of the water, probably to avoid the aforementioned risk of getting injured with the shock waves.
So yeah, I thought in all this because there's a joke among Genshin players about Kokomi being a fish, but shooting that thing underwater is a bad idea! Although with all her Hydro powers, I don't think she even needs a gun in the first place.
Fun (-ish) story, both my parents are migrants/refugees from southern Vietnam born during the war (dad was born in 1957, mom 1968). After the war ended, my dad took a boat over to Canada to leave the communist regime but returned years later and met my mom in Vietnam, where they got married and my mom was able to move to Canada because of that marriage.
Went to a south Vietnamese festival over at Saigon park in Mississauga with my dad (and dog) last weekend, lots of south Vietnamese flags (yellow with red stripes instead of the northern and current red with a yellow star flag). Ate some food, read a bit about Saigon (now renamed Ho chi min city), and just had a good time.
