Oh, our Nightsider friend had combat experience and was discharged.

It'snot just combat experience; IIRC when it comes time for a regiment to be reformed, either because it survived to the end of a Crusade (which, lol) or because it was so shattered that it needs to be reconstituted (far more likely), an honour guard consisting of the most decorated survivors are sent back to the homeworld with the regimental flag/banner. That Nightsider there seeing her family again isn't just a veteran survivor, girl is a friggin' surviving war hero. This girl could probably shake hands with Commissar Cain as an equal, not that he'd see it as such.

Either way, she earned that R&R.

I hate myself for thinking it, but at least she seems to have an average number of eyes for her family now.

Eh, considering what she must've done to earn a return to her homeworld, in her lifetime, decorated in heavy medals, and all that as an abhuman no less? Coming home with her entire left side scarred and mutilated (her left arm seems to be a prosthetic too) actually seems pretty tame.

so mossa imagined the nightsiders to look like the blind folk from all tomorrows?

Any animal that adapted to live in little to no-light environments. Their eyes either go vestigial or become hyper-specialized.
