Zana loves Will, he is her prince charming, from the stories of her childhood. Is also the first person she is close to that does not want to use her as a pawn or an escape goat. Yet, she is a dark elf. She was taught to be cunning, to hit her target where hurts most, to be unfair, to take whatever she can. She knows how to hurt Aubry, how to make the childhood friend break. However, i feel she also find it to be too easy. Too quick. Zana wants a challenge. A rival, for something she finds worthy. That is why she not just gave Aubry a wake up call, but also challenged her ("your move next"). I believe Zana would like Will to be happy with Aubry. But at the same time, she would rather be his lover herself. After all, she is jealous of Aubry, how much Will likes his childhood friend and how far they have been together. It is said everything is fair in love and war. So i look forward about how this battle for a celibate paladin's heart will go!
Would have added interesting depth to the story. Sadly, they chose the mellow one-dimensional story where nobody can die, or stay dead. You'd think there would be stakes and losses in a story about war based on actual ships that actually sunk.

The especially painful part is: it seemed that way at first. It was never hinted at beforehand that ships that sunk weren't permanently dead until Rondo at Rainbow's End, about 4 years after the series began.

Yeah it was still interesting for a long while. But the Type II and recent soul fusion (for Amagi and Kaga) and outright resurrection of Musashi in Ode of Everblooming Crimson (+ the magical cancellation of Metamorphosis for some ships) was just way too much and completely killed what little interest the story still had. Now every time something seems semi-serious, you already know exactly how it's gonna end because everything is so one-dimensional. Can't wait to see what new bs they'll conjure for Lexington. Not to mention Deus Ex Helena who is literally God at this point and can do anything and everything out of thin air.
I have way more fun reading Opsi files nowadays. Too bad they're so few and far between.
This is gomoku not go, but I don't see a gomoku tag, so..
Gomoku is one variation of go. Specifically, go for people who don't know the complicated rules of go. It's played on the same table (originally, gomoku was played with 19x19 board, same size as go board, but later reduced to 13x13), using the same stones, after all.
