The Army never operated the Corsair. It was Navy/Marine Corps only. What happened is explicitly stated in the description: the pilot landed on the wrong carrier.
Outside of emergencies or special circumstances, you're supposed to land on your own ship. Landing on the wrong ship without a good reason for it is treated like the fuckup it is, and there are several images online of aircraft tagged up like that when a pilot messed up their vessel identification and trapped on the wrong deck.
