Which when you think about it is a really odd thing to be confused over given magic is pretty normal in Gensokyo.

Plus she should already know that magic dolls are a thing from the incident with Flandre and Lily White (though that doll was animated by Patchouli instead of Alice); and there was also Alice's dolls helping her with chores at the beginning of that arc (though I'm wiling to bet this is a "curiosity finally got the better of me so I'm just gonna ask about something I've always wondered" moment). Then again, she did fail to recognize human Mamizou despite (at least subconsciously) already knowing she had a human disguise from one of the paid-only comics, so there's a part of me that wonders if the new art style represents a continuity break...
