zucchini (vegetable)
A cylindrical, usually green, summer squash. While originally from the Americas, the zucchini was cultivated to its present-day form in Italy.
Because of its color and shape, it is sometimes confused with a cucumber. A zucchini's peel is rougher and less bumpy, and its flesh has a completely different taste than that of a cucumber.
Also referred to as "courgette."
