She is portrayed with long black hair with a brown gradient, and black eyes. Her default outfit consists of a long-sleeved collared beige shirt with breast pockets, brown pleated miniskirt, black fingerless gloves, brown striped thighhighs, and black boots. She also has a chest harness which is attached to her only visible machinery, a flight deck.

The historical Yamashio Maru was completed and commissioned on 27 January 1945, but was sunk at Yokohama harbor by US aircraft on 17 February the same year before she could be used, hence shipgirl's Yamashio Maru very low luck stat. Her sister ships Chigusa Maru and Zuiun Maru, incomplete when Japan surrendered, subsequently served post-war as originally intended by their builders -- as tankers.
