ventilator (medical)

A piece of medical equipment designed to assist a patient who has difficulty breathing, or, in extreme cases, cannot breathe on their own. Not to be confused with ventilator, which is an apparatus to bring fresh air into a building, room, the interior of a ship, etc., or respirator, a face mask intended to help the wearer breathe safely in hazardous atmospheric conditions.
