Lead ship of her class, new generation of US destroyers incorporating extensive stealth shaping, new advance gun system (with potential for railgun upgrade later on), and a host of other technologies. Originally intended to replace the Burke class destroyers as part of the next generation of naval surface combatants, cost overruns lead to the cancellation of most of the class as well as omitting a number of technological features. Currently used as a test-bed for various features to be fitted to other Burkes as well as well as future warship projects.
