type 99 cannon
A 20mm cannon used by Japanese fighters and bombers during World War II. It is based on the Oerlikon series of autocannons which are operated by advanced primer ignition blowback.
There are two variants of the Type 99 cannon. The Type 99 Mark 1 is a light weapon but the short barrel and projectile chambered reduced the projectile range and hitting power. It is fed by a drum magazine or later, belt feed. The Type 99 Mark 2 is a heavier weapon which reduced its rate of fire but has a longer barrel and chambered for a longer projectile, making it an effective weapon against allied aircraft. Like the Type 99 Mark 1, it is fed by a drum magazine or later, belt feed.
