Eyewear which its frames has pattern that replicates the look and pattern of a tortoise shell. Such style of eyewear were first popularized in the 1920s and the frames were made of real turtles and large tortoises. The practice was quickly banned worldwide in 1973.
Today, the frames of tortoiseshell-frame eyewear are made of polymer, such as stained acetates.
