summer festival
A general term for various festivals celebrated in summer in Japan.
Festival-themed images are usually set at night, and may include such things as:
- characters wearing yukata (or rarely jinbei) and sometimes masks
- characters holding bagged fish, kinchaku, uchiwa, or water yoyos
- aerial fireworks
- food stands and a wide variety of food, including:
- paper lanterns
- goldfish scooping with poi
- yo-yo fishing
- katanuki
- shooting gallery
- ring toss
