Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (not to be confused with Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Film)) is the direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA for the Sega Genesis game console, It was released to Japan on November 21, 1991, and to the United States three days later on, November 24, 1991.
The game follows Sonic the Hedgehog and his newly debuted sidekick Miles Prower, conveniently nicknamed Tails, adventure to gather the Chaos Emerald's before Dr. Eggman can use them to power his Death Egg.
It plays like the first game, you run to the end goal as fast as you can, defeat Badnik's and collect rings to stay afloat. there are a few new mechanics though, such as the debut of the spindash, the spindash has Sonic or Tails curl up into a ball and rev up to go at super speeds in seconds! As well as introducing Super Sonic, an ability Sonic can transform into when having all 7 Chaos Emerald's and 50 rings.
Trivia
- Despite being the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, many believe Sonic CD to be the real sequel. Sonic Origins seems to back this theory up as well.
- When initially released in Japan there were many bugs, which caused the game to be delayed for the American release.
- Super Sonic may be a homage to the Super Saiyan transformation from the Dragon Ball franchise.
