singlish text
Images that contain text written noticeably in Singlish, a colloquial form of English spoken in Singapore. Singlish often incorporates loanwords from Chinese (Mandarin and others) and Malay, and may also contain phrases from Tamil.
Due to geographical and shared cultural reasons, some varieties of colloquial Malaysian English (i.e. "Manglish") can be very similar to Singlish. Manglish as spoken in most parts of Western Peninsular Malaysia is often nearly indistinguishable from Singlish (i.e. can only be inferred by meta knowledge of the character's nationality). As such, these examples can also be tagged "Singlish".
Notable examples
- Sar-21 (Girls' Frontline)
- Android "T-Doll" bonded to a Singaporean SAR-21 assault rifle.
- May sometimes be depicted speaking in Singlish, especially if drawn by Singaporean or Malaysian artists.
- e.g. post #3673523
Tag usage notes
- Tag Singlish for noticeable examples of Singlish in text.
- Try to avoid tagging Singlish for light colloquialisms like one or two odd spellings or grammar/syntax. These examples can be nearly indistinguishable from typos or from other colloquial forms of English.
- Though, generally, if it feels distinctively Singlish enough (speakers of Singlish/Manglish should know what I mean), it should be tagged.
- Anything that warrants a translation note probably deserves to be tagged Singlish.
- Tag Singlish for noticeable examples of Manglish in text that highly resembles Singlish.
- Follow similar guidelines as for Singlish above.
