sin and punishment
Sin & Punishment is series of a rail-shooters created by Treasure.
The first game in the series, Sin & Punishment (subtitled Successor of the Earth), debuted on the Nintendo 64 in late 2000. Treasure did plan on releasing the game overseas, but due to the Nintendo 64's lifespan was at its end, the game stayed only in Japan and ultimately became one of Treasure's most sought-after imports alongside Radiant Silvergun. The game uses a unique control style that allowed players to move and aim independently from other rail-shooters of its time, as well as some light platforming elements and featured many bosses to tackle. In 2007, the game was re-released on the Wii's Virtual Console overseas.
In 2009, a sequel was released for the Wii, utilizing the Wii's motion controls (while supporting traditional controllers) and gives the protagonists the ability to move more freely in the 2D plane, making it more akin to shoot 'em ups such as DoDonPachi and RayForce. Unlike its predecessor, the sequel was released in North America and Europe roughly a year later as Sin & Punishment: Star Successor and Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies respectively.
