Character from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. The first recruitable enemy in the game, and the first playable unit in the Myrmidon class.

A man of half-Sacaean, half-Bern descent, Rutger grew up in the Sacaean capital of Bulgar. At the onset of the Disturbance of Bern, he saw how Bern's forces, led by Wyvern General Brunnya, decimated the city and slaughtered its populace. As one of the few survivors of the Battle of Bulgar, left alive because Bern's soldiers mistook him for one of their own, Rutger swore to avenge his fallen people by exacting vengeance upon Bern. After rescuing Clarine from Narcian's clutches, she recruits him into Roy's army. From there on, Rutger fights under the Lycian and Etrurian banners on his quest for vengeance.

Rutger has mid-length brown hair and sharp brown eyes. His signature outfit is his hooded red coat adorned with a belt. He also wears brown pants.

Rutger is curt, terse and dour. He prefers to be left to his own devices rather than socializing with people. He admits to using his sword to kill, which is why he prefers not to become anyone's training partner, as he wouldn't want anyone else to go down a bloodied path like his own. Rutger also doesn't know what he wants to do after taking vengeance upon Bern.

Rutger is featured in the Fire Emblem Cipher panorama for the Legendary Weapons, wielding Durandal.
