piscis austrinus (constellation)
Piscis Austrinus (the Southern Fish) is a constellation located in the Southern celestial hemisphere. It was formerly known as Piscis Notius. Its brightest star is Fomalhaut (lit. "mouth of the fish").
Piscis Austrinus is sometimes depicted as being directly connected to Aquarius (the Water-Bearer) by Fomalhaut, although this star belongs exclusively to Piscis Austrinus. The connection symbolizes the pouring of water from Aquarius into the mouth of the Southern Fish. The constellation used to have a tail running southward, which was later separated into the constellation of Grus (the Crane).
