oyster pail
A folded takeout container often used in American Chinese takeout cuisine.
Made using folded waxed or plastic coated paper, oyster pails were originally created as a cheap disposable container to hold fresh shucked oysters. With the rise in popularity of takeout of American Chinese food, they became widely used by American Chinese restaurants for their cheap and leak resistant design. Given this common use by Chinese restaurants, they became commonly known as Chinese food boxes or Chinese takeout containers.
