operation ten-gou
Operation Ten-Go was the last major Japanese naval offensive in World War II that took place on 7 April 1945. The operation occurred during the Battle of Okinawa and was a last desperate attempt by the Imperial Japanese Navy to slow down the advancement of the Allied forces into Japan, which ended in a defeat as the Americans' air superiority dominated the battle, leading to the sinking of the Japanese battleship Yamato as well as other ships while the American aircraft that attacked them only suffered minuscule losses.
