"No Russian" is an infamous level from the 2009 video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in which the player partakes in a terrorist attack which involves shooting at and killing unarmed civilians at a Russian Airport.
Before committing the massacre, the main antagonist Vladimir Makarov said "Remember – no Russian" to the player (an undercover American special force member) as they were about to get out of the elevator. In the original context, the phase was meant to instruct his followers to only speak in English to hide their Russian identity (and therefore put the blame of the operation onto the American-affiliated groups). However, the quote "No Russian" has been misattributed into Makarov instructing his followers into killing any Russian they come across, therefore it has been used as a snowclone on the internet.
The mission drew controversy in the media for its portrayal of a terrorist attack which the player can choose to partake in. Because of the nature of the mission, it can be skipped entirely without impeding the game progression.
