leopard 1
The original "main battle tank" of West Germany. As developments in high-powered HEAT shells meant that heavily armored tanks were little more than sitting ducks, the Leopard was designed to be quite lightly armored but nimble and agile, while carrying the fantastic 105mm L7 gun that enabled it to defeat any armored vehicle it were to face. It was later supplanted in German service by the Leopard 2.
