katori (kancolle)
香取 香取(艦これ) 香取(艦隊これくしょん) 横浜のカトリーヌ
The personification of the Japanese training cruiser Katori in Kantai Collection.
Character design by Parsley-F, voiced by Kayano Ai.
Personality
She is personified around the role of a teacher, carrying a pointer, (or riding crop for some artists,) and prominently wearing glasses. She talks in a mature, maternal, gentle, but also somewhat flirty tone.
Appearance
She has light brown or silver hair tied into a folded ponytail with parted bangs. She has blue or green eyes. She wears a double-breasted white jacket with gold epaulettes over a white collared shirt and black necktie up top combined with a gray skirt/pencil skirt, and pantyhose below. Her machinery involves a backpack-like rig holding up a smokestack and two twin-cannon turrets, as well as a bridge carried on a strap like a purse. Her shoes in this mode are armored high-heeled sandals.
Her class was originally commissioned as training vessels as well as command vessels, especially for submarine or destroyer squadrons, but like with so much else in the Japanese arsenal, was hastily upgraded and pushed to front-line status as attrition weighed upon the IJN. This is reflected with her low maximum stats. She does have the bonus of having four slots and, as a training cruiser, an experience boost if used as a flagship in PvP.
History
The historical IJN Katori was named after the head Katori Shrine in Chiba Prefecture ("Katori" can translate to "Incense Acquisition"). She was sunk in Operation Hailstone (aka The Raid on Truk Harbor to the Japanese), under the bombardment of the American battleship USS Iowa on the 17th of February, 1944. It is said that Admiral Raymond A. Spruance explicitly halted the airstrikes against her so she could be used as live target practice.
