Fukumoto Nobuyuki's gambling manga and anime series, also called Ultimate Survivor Kaiji.

The titular main character, Itou Kaiji, accidentally takes on the debts of a friend, and, lacking any other job because of the Japanese recession, is forced into perpetual poverty and desperate gambling schemes to stay one step ahead of the Yakuza collection enforcers. Known and referenced in other works for the likes of their underground labor camps where gambling losers wind up working off their debts in Hellish conditions.
