Scientific name: Padda oryzivora
Japanese: 文鳥 (ブンチョウ)
A small bird originating in Indonesia, but introduced to several other countries. In Japan, Java Sparrows have been kept as pets since the 17th century, and an all-white variant has been bred (among others).
Despite its English name, it is not closely related to other sparrows.
